Values-driven organizations are the most successful organizations on the planet.

The Four mantras
The following principles or mantras, as I am fond of calling them, form the philosophical bedrock of all my writings on organizational culture, performance and leadership. The four mantras are:
  • Cultural capital is the new frontier of competitive advantage.
  • Organizations don’t transform, people do.
  • Organizational transformation begins with the personal transformation of the leaders.
  • Measurement matters: Whatever you measure (focus your attention on a regular basis) tends to improve.
With regard to this latter mantra, my point is that when you measure and map the values of an organization on a regular basis, and act on the results you will not only see a shift in values and behaviours, you will also see a shift in the culture of the organization. The shift you will observe will be evolutionary in nature—from a focus on the lower levels of organizational consciousness, not just to the higher levels of consciousness, but  to a focus on full spectrum organizational consciousness, where all levels of consciousness are fully reflected in how the organization operates.

The same is true of individuals. When people get regular feedback on how they are coming across to others, and how they can improve their performance, they tend to modify their values and behaviours, eventually evolving towards full spectrum personal consciousness.

Full spectrum individuals and organizations are not only the most successful, they are also the most resilient. They are successful because they have developed the ability to respond appropriately to all life and business situations. The core competence that drives individuals and the leaders of organizations towards full spectrum consciousness is commitment—commitment to becoming not the best in the world, but the best for the world.

Barrett Values Centre (BVC)

Since 1997, the Barrett Values Centre has been helping organisations to thrive by building high-performing, values-driven cultures.

Cultural transformation happens when people in the organisation become deeply aware of their motivations and are encouraged to align these motivations with the strategic intentions of the organization. At the heart of the approach are  the acclaimed Cultural Transformation Tools® and a global network of BVC Certified Consultants.

Here are some Customer Stories which illustrate the powerful impact the Cultural Transformation Tools have had on organizations all over the world. The Barrett Values Centre’s approach is fully described in my book, The Values-Driven Organization: Cultural Health and Employee Well-Being as a Pathway to Sustainable Performance.

The Barrett Organizational Model

The Barrett Organizational Model is the breakthrough work of Richard Barrett. Inspired by Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and tested over more than two decades of real-world experience, the model identifies the seven most important areas of organizational motivation.
